Rooted within a rich legacy of rangatira, kaitiaki, and storytellers, Ngāti Rakaipaaka carries a deep connection to its rohe and the generations who have nurtured and protected it. This design acknowledges the strength, resilience, and mana that continue to flow through the uri of Rakaipaaka today.
The tohu woven throughout the artwork reflect whakapapa, mana, and kaitiakitanga, recognising the enduring relationship between people and place. They speak to the responsibility of caring for the whenua and moana while preserving the knowledge, values, and traditions handed down through generations.
This piece celebrates tūrangawaewae - the places that ground us, shape us, and connect us to our ancestors. It is a tribute to the enduring identity of Ngāti Rakaipaaka and the pride that comes from knowing where you come from and who you represent.
